    ISCEST HOLDS INAUGURAL CONFERENCE

    The Inaugural Conference of the International Society of Comparative Education, Science & Technology, ISCEST, comes up in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, between December 7 and 11, 2014. The conference is being hosted in Bayelsa State in collaboration with the state-owned Niger Delta University. The conference will be declared open by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who will also be the Special Guest of Honour. The President will also be inducted as a Fellow of the International Society of Comparative Education, Science and Technology, ISCEST, at the ceremony.

    The conference which will be held under the Chairmanship of Professor Steve Azaiki, will also have in attendance, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson, many other state governors, members of the Diplomatic Corps, captains of industries, top businessmen from within and outside the country, renowned academics, several other people from all walks of life, among others.

    Billed to participate as Speakers and discussants at the conference, are top academics from America, France, Australia, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Italy, Bulgaria, Greece, Holland, South Africa and many of the Sub-Saharan countries. The keynote Speaker is Professor David Turner. Prof. Turner recently ends his term as the Treasurer for the World Council of Comparative Education Societies. He is an emeritus professor in the Faculty of Business and Society, University of South Wales, UK and a visiting professor at a number of universities across the globe. He has taught in a variety of higher education institutions, teaching comparative education at the University Of London Institute Of Education before moving to the University of East London, UK.

    Other Thematic Section Chairs include Prof Charl Wolhunter and Dr Gertrude Shotte. Prof. Wolhuter is the President of the Southern African Comparative and History of Education Society and professor in Comparative Education at North-West University, South Africa. Dr Shotte is a lecturer at Middlesex University, London and Books Editor of the International Journal of Multidisciplinary Comparative Studies.

    Management Sciences Thematic Section Chair is Dr Paul Miller. Dr Miller is a Reader at Brunel University United Kingdom and founder of the Institute for Educational Administration & Leadership- Jamaica (IEAL-J). Prior to joining Brunel, he was Professor at the University of Technology, Jamaica.

    Environmental & Agricultural Sciences Thematic Section Co-Chairs are Prof Valentine Aletor & Dr Omokaro Obire. Prof. Aletor is a Professor of Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition and Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Ondo State, Nigera. Dr Obire is Associate Professor for Environmental Microbiology and former Acting Head of the Department of Applied and Environmental Biology at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria

    The Technology Thematic Section Chair is Prof. Humphery Ogoni. Prof. Ogoni is the Vice Chancellor of Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. He is an expert in Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering.

    Applied Sciences Thematic Section Chair is Prof. Ibibia Dabipi. Prof. Dabipi is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and former Chairman of the Department of Engineering and Aviation Science at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Previously, he was Chairman of Electrical Engineering Department, Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.

    The Chairman of the conference, Professor Azaiki is the interim President of the International Society of Comparative Education, Science and Technology, Nigeria. He is the President and Vice Chancellor of soon-to-be operational Institute of Science and Technology, Yenagoa. He serves on the governing board/council of a number of organizations including Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State; Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, among others. Azaiki is also a visiting Professor/Fellow to a number of Institutions including the Institute of Petroleum Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria; the International Personnel and Management Academy, Kiev, Ukraine. He holds a PhD in Agriculture and is currently a Professor of Plant Protection in Agronomy at the Institute of Potato Research, Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Nemishaeve, Ukraine. Prof. Azaiki is the Coordinator, National Think-Tank, Nigeria.

    Nigeria as a country and indeed, its scholars, will benefit immensely from this conference as opportunities will be created for academics and students to publish their research papers in internationally-recognized journals of the World Society of Comparative Education. Besides, Nigeria will be having the rare opportunity of hosting a gathering of intellectuals and policy makers on education from across the globe.

    ISCEST is a scholarly association dedicated to promoting Comparative Education, Science and Technology as well as advancing the academic status and values of these fields of human enterprise and endeavours. It has branches in the Americas and most of the countries in Europe and Asia. In Africa, the organization has offices only in South Africa and Egypt. With the event coming up in Yenagoa, Nigeria becomes the first in Sub-Saharan Africa to inaugurate the organization and to host a World Conference of the Society.
