AZAIKI PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATED WORLD BOOK DAY

Azaiki Public Library celebrated 2015 World Book Day with other Libraries around the world on 23rd April, 2015.

World book day or World book and Copyright day also known as International Day of the book or World Book Days is a yearly events set-side on this day by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to promote reading, publishing and copyright.

Thus, World book day was first celebrated around the world on 23rd April, 1995. Hence, the connection between 23rd April and book was first made in 1923 by booksellers in Catalonia. But in 1995, UNESCO for the first time decided that World book day be celebrated on the 23rd of April each year, as the date is also the anniversary of the death of Willaim Shakespeare, as well as the birth or death of several other prominent authors around the world.

Furthermore, it is expedient to note that we celebrated the 2015 World Book Day in our premises with over thirty students in attendance from three major secondary schools in the City of Yenagoa and its environs.
